What Is Your Role As A Team Leader

What Determines Your Role As A Team Leader How Does Your Role Change

An Article By Dennis O’Brien
role as a team leader
Your role as a team leader will change over time. Forget those images of people laying back on a sandy beach drinking margaritas from a class with a little umbrella in it. As your team grows so does your business and your role as team a leader should grow with it. An expansion of income means you can expect the number of tasks to grow along with that expansion.

You will soon realise that unless you outsource some of your work or begin to hire people to do tasks the rest of your team will suffer. So how do we know when it’s time to begin this next phase of your business.

From Your Role As A Team Leader To Business Owner

The video below contains some very valuable information when it comes to deciding at what point you’re change should occur. The style of presentation will also give you some idea of how your role as a team leader will change and what you will be expected to do as your change occurs and you’re training new recruits.

The video is part of a series released each Friday from the team over at SEO Moz and if you sign up to the newsletter you will be notified when a new video is available. The content is not meant to be provide a technical view point but more for the business owner and highlights what is required as part of your role as a team leader.

Although the video is quite long you only need to watch for a short while to see what I am alluding to when it comes to your changing role as a team leader. The transition to business owner is truly realised when you begin to employ or outsource tasks to other people. Although those visions of laying back and enjoying the fruits of your labour are a part of your dream there is quite a path before they become reality. We would all love to think we can achieve those visions sooner rather than later but there is a good deal of work to do in your role as a team leader beforehand.

Right now you might be filling all the roles discussed in the video. But at some time those roles are going to become more involved and require more of your time. For example if in your role as a team leader you are creating for your video marketing campaigns and you’re also running your website, this will soon be broken into smaller tasks that you will need to hand over to others as they become more complicated or time consuming.

From The Role Of  A Team Leader To Retired Business Person

No doubt we can achieve our dreams if we build our business to the point where it becomes second nature and we have trained those who follow us to treat their role as one in the same. You must be reachable to any person along the chain that you are a part of or you become the weakest link. So don’t forget that when you are laying back sipping margaritas to always have your mobile phone and laptop under their own umbrella right next to you. Such is your role as a team leader.

Hi, Dennis,

Wow, what a TON of valuable information that you are sharing here!

I am so new to blogging that all these strategies are 'aliens' to me. Yet, one thing I am sure is that, the most successful people systemize their tasks and have most of those outsourced. Thank you so much for sharing.

I certainly will remember to re-visit your blog when the time comes for implementing these :)

PS: I like your energy and sincerity.

Hey Dennis thanks for this great article and video.

Every body has a role in not only business and marketing, but also in society. Playing the role that you are given in society and playing the role that your success gives you or doesn't give you at first, is crucial. You can either play the role well and make it work for you, or you can suck at it and suffer the consequences! The better you are at playing the role, the quicker you can get results and move on up to the next one!

Thanks again and all the best buddy

Hi Saqib….and thanks for contributing to the value of the article. We do all have a role to fulfill as part of a growing society and the fundamentals of that society are in it's education system. A good education will always help you to succeed. More directly speaking, as a link in the chain of my business network we exemplify the notion of being one in the pursuit of financial freedom for all members. In the role of team leader we are but a node in a network that attracts others who like the culture of the business. The way we see it is we're setting up the role for the next person to fill it in a duplication process.

We will always be team leaders in any part of the business with the only difference being at which part of the chain you're at. At a point where you can employ others to prop up your role is that point where you begin to move away from direct recruitment to training the trainers but still fulfilling that role as team leader. This is where I find the value in sites like SEO Moz and the free training they provide. Great to see you again and I like your discussions Saqib. Be around to visit shortly just as soon as I finish a small project. Dennis

I think the hardest part among stuff is to stand as a "leader" because its a huge obligation that bring a quite pressure on your part who are responsible to handle different kinds of people…

Hello Renz

Firstly I would like to say welcome and thanks for taking the time to comment and add value to the article. I can see your point and I agree it is a difficult task. To learn about the different personalities it is said there are four main distinctions. What this doesn't do is take into consideration the many differences in culture can also affect the way we view others. As a team leader we can only be an example of what our business model is built on. If we duplicate what is delivered in the training it makes life more simple.

Thank you for your input.

As a leader you need to stand of what you have decided, perform the task effectively without doubt within thy self because the performance of your stuff started with you as a leader…

Glad you enjoyed the content and thank you for adding to the article. It is up to us yes but we also follow the duplication system we are shown so it is also the structure of the business you choose to promote. We can become leaders but we must have a team of leaders to interact with to improve ourselves.

Thank you for commenting.
